The Cirriculum in Saudi Arabia and Korea
Saudi Arabia and Korea have a great curriculum system, but there are several differences and similarities related to curriculum between them. The differences and the similarities are mainly regard to subjects, hours, teachers and exams. First, Saudi Arabian and Korean students study several important academic subjects at elementary schools like math, science, social and their native language, but Saudi Arabian students study three additional subjects like Islamic, history and geography. In high school, Saudi Arabian students study what they studied in elementary school plus physics, chemistry and English but the Korean students study what they studied in elementary school plus history and English. Both Saudi Arabian and Korean study some nonacademic subjects like sports and arts, but Korean students study additional elective subjects like music, Japanese, Chinese and German. Also, the classes hours are different between them. In Saudi Arabia, the students study 7 hours per day and 5 days per week, but in Korea, they study 9 hours per day, and 6 days per week. Both Saudi Arabian and Korean student spend 3 hours for homework assignments every day. Moreover, in both countries, the teachers are different for each subjects. For example, a math teacher is different than a physics teacher. After that, there are two exams per semester in both countries. In Saudi Arabia, the students have to pass the exams to go to the next grade, on the other hand Korean students don’t have to pass the exams to go to the next grade. In brief, These are the main differences and the similarities between these systems.
